To my love,
I will wait for you under the apple tree
in the dusk of twilight, when all the garden
will be sweet with the heady dew of evening
and the thrill of unspoken promises. There,
we will drink honeyed wine spilled
from my lips in the form of all the words I keep
in secret. They swirl inside me like new wine
flowing through my veins—
at once filling me with euphoria and a
trembling sort of heaviness. Let us frolic
in the garden, there,
like young gazelles leaping upon the hills
at the first blush of spring. Let us be
love-drunk through all the sultry hours
of the night,
for I know that all too soon,
the jealous dawn will rip you from my arms.
To my love, I will wait in breathless
anticipation for the dusk to make
its way to me once more.

Hello and welcome to my page~
My name is Larisa--a very common Slavic name that was either derived from the Latin word hilaris, meaning "cheerful," or from the Greek city of Larissa, meaning "strong fortress."
Born in Ukraine, I emigrated with my family to America when I was still a small child and now make my home in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Growing up immersed in two vastly differing cultures led me to have a burning curiosity about people all over the world. Stemming from said curiosity, I have fallen in love with traveling to other countries, meeting new people and delving into their culture, exploring new cities, and of course, dining on the local cuisine!
If I cannot escape into a different country, then my next favorite method of adventure is to lose myself in a spectacular book. I enjoy books of all genres--from fiction and novels, to biographies and ethnographies. As long as it captures my fancy and holds me spellbound the entire time, I will burn through the book like a forest fire! Because of this penchant for reading and travel, coupled with my love of deep and mysterious things, I have been often called a dreamer and I find the title suits me.
With that being said, I invite you to stay a while, perhaps make yourself a cup of tea and linger through my posts and feel free to comment or share a thought :-)

This both mesmerised and moved me deeply. This must be the best poem I’ve read this year on WP… Thank you for this!

Isha, I am so humbled by your comment!! Just yesterday, I was reading your work and I thought to myself, “I have a long way to go to be able to write as beautifully as some of the people on here, including you.” Thank you so much for this comment!

Oh that’s truly heartwarming although I feel I do not deserve such praise. Also, it is remarkable how drawn I was to this lovely piece! I will remember it always. I hardly, hardly choke up while reading poems, but I did with this one. There is so much symbolism here, such powerful imagery. You’ve captured the essence of love. I’m so glad I found your blog. It is such a pleasure.

You have made my entire year, my lovely friend! Thank you so much! I was reading Elizabeth Barrett Browning last night and wanted to try my hand at classical romantic poetry. Also, you deserve all the praise and more, and I truly mean that. Your writing is phenomenal!!

Well, there it is. I am a sucker for classical poetry, and usually write in that style, though I do digress sometimes and try my hand (pun intended) at other styles too. There is something so pure about the form. I adore both Elizabeth and Robert Browning’s poetry, though have mostly read the latter.
Just when I was thinking that blogging had become quite tedious for me and lost its charm, your work comes along and finds me, so I should be thanking you for making my year! 🙂
I’m looking forward to reading more posts as soon as I can find the time.
Warmest regards!

I am both delighted and sad at reading your comment. I love when I run into a writer (you) that captures my imagination and captivates my mind, but I do understand that all writers suffer burnout at some point. I have walked away from my blog 2 years ago and didn’t attempt any kind of writing until about a month ago. Then I decided I want to be able to write because it is a beautiful endeavor, and I am working on not tying my emotions too deeply to my work because I can suffer burnout again and walk away from the thing. I truly hope you will stay on WordPress, take a break if you must, but I will be here reading through your works. I love your boatman series, I’m planning on going back to the beginning and reading through them in order.

Well, thank God you did make your way back. Your experience serves both as revelation and motivation, to stay on. I’ll hold on to that inspired bit of advice about not tying emotions to work. How novel! Thank you so much!
I’ve been reposting the boatman series lately, it’s close to my heart and I am elated that you enjoyed it!
Such a wonderful interaction with you today. Reminds me of why I started blogging! 😊

How exuberant in its romanticism. The unbridled joy and antipation is palpable, Larisa. Beautiful!!

Thank you so much Rob! It deviates from my usual works (I tend to be drawn more to the darker side of things) but I really wanted to try my hand at classical poetry and this was the result.

Thank you so much Tim! I am so glad you were able to enjoy my poetry! Yes, poetry is art in word form and sometimes it takes years to develop an appreciation for it. But once you do, you keep coming back for more. Beautiful writing always does that for me ☺️

Aw, that is so sweet, it warms my heart! I hope you will have time to write when you are there! When I go on vacation, generally I’m walking around too much and exploring to be able to write much—but then again, I haven’t blogged in several years, so I’m not sure how I’d fare on a future vacation with needing to write things.

I’ll try to make it a priority to write! I’m sure theres a comfortable coffee shop out there where I can relax and jot something down :).
I hope my time is consumed with exploring though, I’m sure there is alot to see out there!
