Celebrating the Small Things

Amidst all the turmoil of 2020 and the presidential elections that will start in a few hours, I’ve realized how important it is to celebrate the little things in life that bring joy. Focusing on the big picture can be so overwhelming sometimes. But these little moments of happiness are like beacons in an otherwise dark sky and they shine all the brighter because of the surrounding darkness. Anyway, one day we’ll look back and realize that these small things were actually the big things that made up our life.

Hello and welcome to my page~ My name is Larisa--a very common Slavic name that was either derived from the Latin word hilaris, meaning "cheerful," or from the Greek city of Larissa, meaning "strong fortress." Born in Ukraine, I emigrated with my family to America when I was still a small child and now make my home in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Growing up immersed in two vastly differing cultures led me to have a burning curiosity about people all over the world. Stemming from said curiosity, I have fallen in love with traveling to other countries, meeting new people and delving into their culture, exploring new cities, and of course, dining on the local cuisine! If I cannot escape into a different country, then my next favorite method of adventure is to lose myself in a spectacular book. I enjoy books of all genres--from fiction and novels, to biographies and ethnographies. As long as it captures my fancy and holds me spellbound the entire time, I will burn through the book like a forest fire! Because of this penchant for reading and travel, coupled with my love of deep and mysterious things, I have been often called a dreamer and I find the title suits me. With that being said, I invite you to stay a while, perhaps make yourself a cup of tea and linger through my posts and feel free to comment or share a thought :-)

    1. It’s nice to see you too, Ken! I’m just taking things one moment at a time. I’m not gonna lie, I’m ready to stop living through huge historical events and have things settle down again. How have you been?

        1. 3 years of posting, that’s impressive!! I’ve only had my blog for a little more than a year and have already deleted it once, and then dropped off for long stretches of time. I’m weird about social media and connections though. I don’t have any social media presence online aside from this blog because I have a hard time staying so constantly connected to anyone and everyone. My blog is for people who I have never met, and it helps me not delete it. A handful of people in my life know about my blog, but we never discuss it so I can keep it separate and in its own sphere so that I don’t ever feel this overwhelming need to take it all offline. I’m sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. If wishes were horses, I’d send you a whole caravan of good health!

  1. Awesome video Larisa and a great reminder for us that these small moments shine bright and often when we look back it glows with warmth and a kind reminder of those precious moments. Hope you have a great day and even more a peace of mind especially during these trying times.

      1. I’m over in England but things are just as hectic here as well but a peace of mind is definitely a prescription we all need plenty of. Hope your day went well and the rest of the week is even better.

    1. Oh Rob, today is going to be wild regardless of what the outcome will be. It’s times like these we hug those we love a little closer and focus extra hard on the small fires in our life that bring us warmth.

  2. You’re beautiful inside and out, Larissa. This post made me smile as I pace around the house today, on pins and needles for the future of this once great nation. We all need to make a habit of counting our blessings on the daily, especially in times of turmoil.

I swear I’ve started a voice memo response to you no less than 15 times and each time I either get interrupted or something near-catastrophic happens. Please know I haven’t forgotten you or am otherwise ignoring you. That couldn’t be further from the truth, my darling. Your dulcet voice is a source of joy and invigoration to me. It feels impossible to send a β€œquick” response because you have provided me with so many poignant contemplations and corridors of thought. Soon, I swear. Today I will be celebrating the small things. And one of those things is your friendship. β™₯οΈπŸ™πŸΌπŸͺβš‘️🌞

    1. My dear April, I would never, under any circumstance, think you were being neglectful or ignoring me or any such thing. Please don’t feel that you even have to respondβ€”if you ever want to, then the door is open for communication, but with absolutely no pressure. I completely understand and empathize about life and how often we are simply unable to give more than we already did that day, and how sometimes each day continues in that same pattern.

Today, I celebrate you too. You are one of the stars in my sky, and even through the distance, you manage to shine so brightly.

Sending you love and warmth and peace of mind today and every day βœ¨πŸ’β™₯️

    1. Thanks Robinβ€”yes, I think half the world is glued to an electronic device right now because of the importance of this election. The most important thing about that video is that my friend and I had absolute fun that night πŸ˜‰

    1. Thank you Simon. Sigh, this year just keeps getting stranger and stranger. I was rear ended pretty hard 2 nights ago and just scheduled an appointment with a chiropractor. Otherwise, just keeping the faith and giving life my all. I hope you’re doing well over there across the pond.

      1. Ugh being rear ended like that sounds bad to me, I hope they’ve not done any damage to you.
I think you’ve got it, keeping giving life your all…
I’m doing ok – I’m now in the dark and cold and been locked away again lol
