Like a melody that I once knew,
you sink into the buried spaces of
my mind and stain all the dull grays
a vibrant carmine.
Echoes of conversations long since past drift on a million horizons,
illusions of a mirage,
tattooing my retinas with a constellation of loss.
I weave your words from threads of
forgotten memories
and run them across my body.
But they lose their way in the
unmapped galaxies
you refused to venture near,
competing only
with the same spectacular way
I used to lose myself
at the mere thought of you.

Hello and welcome to my page~
My name is Larisa--a very common Slavic name that was either derived from the Latin word hilaris, meaning "cheerful," or from the Greek city of Larissa, meaning "strong fortress."
Born in Ukraine, I emigrated with my family to America when I was still a small child and now make my home in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Growing up immersed in two vastly differing cultures led me to have a burning curiosity about people all over the world. Stemming from said curiosity, I have fallen in love with traveling to other countries, meeting new people and delving into their culture, exploring new cities, and of course, dining on the local cuisine!
If I cannot escape into a different country, then my next favorite method of adventure is to lose myself in a spectacular book. I enjoy books of all genres--from fiction and novels, to biographies and ethnographies. As long as it captures my fancy and holds me spellbound the entire time, I will burn through the book like a forest fire! Because of this penchant for reading and travel, coupled with my love of deep and mysterious things, I have been often called a dreamer and I find the title suits me.
With that being said, I invite you to stay a while, perhaps make yourself a cup of tea and linger through my posts and feel free to comment or share a thought :-)

Larisa, these words are so beautifully stained with loss, as though the poem itself wears the colours of it and reverberates in its echoes. I love your first few lines:
“Like a melody that I once knew, you sink into the buried spaces of my mind”
And then the ending, some realisation that perhaps that person had not been prepared to… fully understand, give everything or accept everything.
Utterly beautiful Larisa.

Thank you so much Rachel! Your commentary is always such a pleasure to read, I love how you really absorb all the poems you comment on.
I believe that almost all of us have had to experience what it is like to not be fully seen or accepted, and I hoped I could convey that specific type of pain when you feel like you always come in second place, however hard you try. Especially when it’s tied to a romantic relationship. Sometimes it feels like the closure from those kinds of relationships and interactions is almost impossible, but, we do the best we can.
Thank you so much for gracing me with your lovely presence, I hope everything in your corner of the world is gorgeous today.

That pain, of always feeling second place, can be excruciating, soul destroying, especially if we blame some fundamental flaw in ourselves as responsible… and you are right, it’s so hard to heal, but I think the best way is to have compassion for ourselves and recognise our strengths.
I hope you are having a beautiful day too ❤️

I read this one aloud a few times, it’s an immersive piece and the ending is haunting. If I had to pick a favourite line (not easy) I would go with :”tattooing my retinas with a constellation of loss”. Just an amazing turn of phrase. Great work.

That’s probably one of the highest compliments a writer can get—when someone reads their work out loud. Thank you.
That line you refer to came to me at work and I had to scribble it down. But I had already been wrestling with this poem so it was in the back of my mind. Truthfully, I’m not satisfied with how it ends, but it is what it is at this point. Thank you for reading it in depth and for your reflections on it, I really appreciate it.
